A Map of Klambratún
2018
Image weft, wool and cotton. Wooden structure made of spruce.

The tapestry “Map of Kalmbratún'' was made while researching Klambratún park in 2018 preparation for the first edition of the performance walk “Please Watch Your Step”. The woven image emphasises the interconnective qualities of the park's ecology which we can only encounter on a surface level as guests of Klambratún. Underneath the thick fabric of grass is a complicated network of roots that connect individuals to each other which is represented in the piece as loose ends on the back of the tapestry. The map was displayed on a wooden structure in Kjarvalsstaðir Museum and served as a meeting point for the performer and the audience. When the walk started the performer took the map with them leaving an empty structure in the museum which, the absence of the tapestry signaled to the rest of the museum’s guests that a walk was taking place.
