Mynd á fjalli, cross stich, 2025

Mynd á fjalli, Mynd í fjalli and Mynd úr fjalli were exhibited in a duo show with Darja Shatalova titled Data Runs Like Rivers at Gallery Kannski 15th - 25th of May 2025. The works are inspired by Sigurjón Ólafsson’s relief Myndir í fjalli (1966-1969) that sits on the front wall of Búrfell hydroelectric power plant in Þjórsá River, Iceland. Sigurjón uses his exceptional visual language to describe the production of hydroelectricity, from an irregular stream to organized power. In a similar way, the three works lead the viewer through the process starting with Mynd í fjalli, a personal photograph of the gigantic turbines, to Mynd úr fjalli, a graphic recipe for the newly extracted water surface and ends with a handsewn image of a hand revealing tiny electric placed underneath Sigurjón’s master piece, like a punctuation at the end of a sentence.
